Vital Church Committee & Vision Team

The Vital Church Committee was formed in preparation for the calling of a new pastor and a capital stewardship campaign in 2001. Members of session and interested individuals from the congregation prepared a preliminary vision in anticipation of the calling of a new pastor. The preliminary vision consisted of reaching out to the youth of our community, establishing a praise worship service, and caring for the spiritual and physical needs of our church family. In order to accomplish the very first of these goals, the session authorized the hiring of a full time Youth Director.

In September of 2003, the Pittsburgh Presbytery implemented a church growth project entitled Project 6:15. A Vision Team was created and merged with the Vital Church Committee. Since then, it is unbelievable how much has been accomplished at Lebanon Presbyterian during 2003. In 2002, a “Vision” was set before the congregation: "To MEET the NEEDS and OFFER HOPE to the families of West Mifflin and the South Hills by PROCLAIMING and SHARING the Good News of Jesus Christ in Words and Actions!"

Here is a list of just some of the many awesome Joys of the past twelve months in meeting the goals of the Vision.

1) Preaching the "Word" each week

2) New evening Praise Worship Service

3) New screens, cameras, lighting, sound system

4) People have donated $200,000 to “Building on the Rock”

5) Pittsburgh Presbytery has granted us $18,500

6) New signs on both roads, which have attracted new folks

7) Prayer Warriors

8) Electrical work – new service

9) Volunteers giving many hours of work, saving $25,000

10) Volunteers for the many programs

11) New Men’s Group

12) Banners – Baptismal Banners

13) Mission trips: Mexico (20) – We are sponsoring this year, Malawi (3), Crestfield (15)

14) GMC Retreat Crestfield (11 adults)

15) Young Mothers – Vacation Bible School, Harvest Festival, Winter Festival

16) Free Community Church Picnic

17) Mission fund-raisers

18) Increase in visitors worshipping

19) Increase in new members – 20

20) Congregation working for Christ

21) Choir together spiritually, having bible study and prayer

22) Great Staff: Mark, Laurie, Jesse, Darla, Keith, Faye and Pastor Bob

But one important lesson that has been impressed upon the Vision Team this year is that a church never arrives and that God calls on us to be flexible and open to the opportunities he lays in front of us. There are always new challenges and opportunities that must be meet. Even though many great things have happened at Lebanon in the pasts few years, there are still challenges to be meet. The Vision Team will continue outlining the hopes and challenges for the future and beyond. Hope to see you there.
